News - April 2018
Christchurch Men's Shed
April brings the primrose sweet
Scatters daisies at our feet
Sounds about right - at least the rain has stopped!
Pie & Mash
Was the highlight of the month our traditional London "Pie & Mash" lunch at Greystone's House?
I learned that it is essential to turn the pie upside down before tucking-in!
Not sure about the liquor - might have preferred gravy but maybe that is a "black country" thing.
Thanks to Les Mercer for organising the event.
Richard Edwards has stepped down from the committee after two years of service to Christchurch Men's Shed.
Richard was one of our original members and joined the committee at the inaugural meeting. He will continue to help look after our web site but I would like to take this opportunity to thank Richard for all of his hard work in helping to get Christchurch Men's Shed up and running and in the good shape it is today.
Highcliffe Library
I missed out on the Highcliffe library garden shed project - stuck at home with man-flu!
Our Men's Shed team comprising Brain Vaughn, John Scase, Nick Mowl, Les Mercer and Bob Mackinnon got the job done so I needn't have worried!
Hedgehog Box
Barry has been busy again this month making a hedgehog hotel for Raymond Brown buildings
Raymond Brown have the contract to build a showroom at the Bailey Bridge site and expect to generate some interesting surplus materials which we are welcome to take for our Men's Shed projects.
Greystone's House Lift Installation / Workshop and Room 11 Meeting
We are slowly getting the workshop back into good order after the dust storm created by the installation of the supporting beams for the lift however we are still waiting for the architect to approve the installation so that the fire proof cladding can be fitted.
Greystone's House will be closed this coming week while the lift is installed but we will be able to access the workshop again on Tuesday 1st May and have our monthly "Room 11" meeting in the afternoon.
Despite the disruption, there were 4 - 5 members in the workshop each day (Tuesday / Wednesday / Thursday) last week.
Peter Barnes started making a box for one of our oil stones.
Mudeford Club Lunch / Mystery Tool
Eleven of us made it to our monthly lunch at the Mudeford Club.
For once I got top of the list for fish & chips - hope no one else was disappointed!
The mystery tool remains a mystery for the time being - even Matador, the German manufacturers, have not been able to identify it yet.
Another mystery tool that came to us in a box of stuff donated by a friend of Nick Mowl turned out to be a "nibbler" - very useful for anyone doing light sheet metal work.
Did I mention Nick Mowl?
Nick is trying to put the bench grinder / polisher/ linisher back together but we have been unable to locate the wire brush, polishing mop and fittings for the spindle. If anyone remembers where we hid them, please let us know....
New Members
Please welcome, Peter Barnes, Peter French and Malcolm Truss. Graham Lovell and Ken Ryder are also planning to join us.
Our new members include a bee keeper and a banjo builder - we are becoming an eclectic bunch of chaps!
