Fresh October brings the pheasant

Then to gather nuts is pleasant!

Phew, just made it before the end of the month otherwise who knows what spooky things might happen down in the shed!

Greystone's Workshop News

Lots of action in the shed in October....on more than one occasion, there were seven of us beavering away!

Len is working on a tool box - real woodwork with dovetail joints.

I'm always surprised how he manages to make everything look so easy.

Allen Hennah cut out a set of parts for a Christmas star and Brian Vaughan started on a coat rack made from some of our spare hammers (yes really!)

Nick Mowll and Jerry Russell are collaborating on turning a new bush for the blade tensioner mechanism on the Triton band saw.

Bill Davies brought in some tools to refurbish and made some items for the family home......

.....and we finally tracked down the chuck for the woodworking lathe so we are another step closer to having a fully functioning set up!

New Donation of Tools

Barry Kenwood brought two loads of tools including some really good quality woodworking stuff - planes, chisels, set of bits for a brace, marking out equipment and more - too much to mention!

Many thanks Barry - we will be using these tools for years to come! Hope to see you at our monthly Mudeford club lunches.

Wildown Road Tools

We finally managed to move the last two heavy items from Wildown Road into the Someford building with help from Barry's mate Rob.

(Rob gave us a pallet truck which is going to be a great help in moving heavy equipment during the refurbishment of the building)

We also brought out a traditional woodwork bench plus the remaining bits and pieces and tidied up before we left.

The tools belonged to Doug Stewart who had asked his daughter Karyn to find a good home for them.

We intend to keep in touch with Karyn as work on the Somerford shed proceeds and we would like to find a suitable way to show our thanks - a carved plaque in the workshop has been suggested and maybe we could invite her to our grand opening.

Somerford Work Party

Les rounded up a work party to undertake the initial work on clearing the ivy from the walls of the Somerford building and removing the rubbish that had built up around the site.

Many thanks to everyone who turned out to help!

Nick just noticed that everyone else had gone home early!

Now the bad news - Les will be recruiting shortly for another work party to clear away some of the soil in order to reveal the footings (or lack of) ready for a structural survey.

I also understand we have been asked by the Youth Club to make some running repairs to the fence.

Upcoming Events:

AGM

Our 2018 Christchurch Men's Shed AGM is scheduled for this coming Tuesday 6th November.

Bill Davis

That's it for October, all treats and no tricks!

But I almost forgot, our very own Bob Mackinnon will be giving a talk to the Wine Circle at Greystone's House next month - and I had him down as a real ale man!

See you all down the shed
