News from the "home shed"
It's been too cold this week to do much but here is my latest resto project completed last week.
The sewing machine belongs to Greystone's House.
Singer Type 28K manufactured in 1900 most likely at Kilbowie (Glasgow) and in pretty poor condition.
It is an early design "vibrating shuttle" type.
Most of the mechanism was corroded or gummed up with dirt and oil, some of the parts had seized and the case was falling apart.
There is a name inside the bits and bobs box - Miss A. Houghton if that means anything to anyone....
Cleaned, sorted, re-built, stained to match the existing wooden base, treated with a copious application of lemon oil and finished with dark wax and now back in working condition.
(the piece of wood in the foreground is the original top of the case)
Should be good for another 100+ years!
That's all for now folks!
Looking forward to getting everyone together again - we will have a lot of catching up to do and I bet Keith has a whole box of mystery tools just waiting to be identified!
